OUR PHILOSOPHY
Vision
To take a holistic approach to education so that all children in our care will experience learning that is engaging and builds success for life. Children are supported to grow and learn to be tenacious and kind – tenacious in their learning and kind in their actions. At Peak Hill Preschool, we believe that childhood is a unique and valuable stage in the journey of life.
In regard to children:
- We believe all children are unique with their own strengths, interests and abilities.
- All children can be confident, resilient, capable and successful learners who are sensitive to others.
- We aim to instill in children a confident and enthusiastic approach to learning. For this to happen, children must first feel safe and secure in their environment and have a strong sense of belonging.
- Children and educators engage in ways that help build respectful relationships providing support, encouragement and care in an inclusive environment, where everyone is welcomed and belongs.
- We recognise that fairness means everyone receiving what they each individually need, rather than everyone getting the same thing.
- We believe in upholding the UN Rights of the Child and the Child Safe Standards to ensure all children are safe and supported at preschool.
In regard to families:
- We value partnerships with families.
- We recognise, value and honour the trust families put in us by allowing us to educate and care for their children- their most precious gift.
- We acknowledge that families are their children’s first teachers. We value and welcome the input they give us, enabling us to provide children with learning experiences that are meaningful to them.
- We aim to make Peak Hill Preschool an inclusive and welcoming place for all families, recognising and respecting the uniqueness and diversity of each family.
- We provide support to families to the best of our ability and aim to work collaboratively with families to achieve the best outcomes for the children.
- We will work with parents to provide a program which supports the aims they have for their children and their learning.
In regard to the program:
- We believe in play-based learning
- We gather input from the children, their families and our own observations to inform our programming
- We believe that children and educators are partners in facilitating their learning and know that children learn best by following their interests and having their strengths and needs catered for
- We hope to instill a lifelong love of learning in our children by adapting the environment and teaching strategies to meet the needs and interests of each child to help them become inquirers, investigators and problem solvers.
- focuses on the abilities of each child, emphasizing their strengths, with particular focus on the three C’s – caring for self, coping with their world and communicating with others.
- We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians of the Wiradjuri land that our preschool is on and as such we strive to embed indigenous perspectives into our program and environment
In regard to our educators:
- We value our educators and teachers at Peak Hill Preschool by ensuring they are heard supported and respected. Educator well-being is important to Peak Hill Preschool.
- At Peak Hill Preschool we reflect on the day-to-day practice of our educators and encourage formal and informal moments of reflection
- We believe in respectful relationships between staff that encourage an open dialogue that promotes the sharing of ideas, team collaboration and reflection. We believe that we as educators should never stop learning and improving and as such provide access to staff development opportunities. We encourage staff to continue learning, studying and developing in their field to always be the best they can be.
In regard to our community:
- We are proud to be on Red Dust country!
- We respectfully acknowledge the Wiradjuri people who are the traditional custodians of the land our preschool is on.
- We believe strong communities create strong kids! As a community preschool, we are strong advocates for being here for the community and being involved in our community and developing our relationships with local organisations.
- We welcome and seek community involvement from local people and agencies and collaborate with local schools and organisations to provide positive outcomes for all involved especially our children.
In regard to the environment:
- We understand that sustainability is so important for our future and as such we aim to embed sustainable practices into our programs and practices to help our earth and the understandings of our children who will inherit it .
- We aim to inspire a love of the natural world, as we know this will inspire children to care for it.
- We promote a sense of responsibility respect and connectedness with our natural environment through education and regular discussions
- Children are actively involved in sustainable practices every day through recycling composting keeping chickens using rainwater and growing their own food.
